Andrea Hayward, 73, passed away in her home in Troy, New York, after an inspiring and valiant battle with cancer on Friday, August 5th, 2017. Andrea was predeceased by her husband, Henry Hayward Jr., and her parents, Frank and Dora Glaude. The family thanks the incredible Hospice staff for their efforts and time, and William & Donna Charette for all their help and assistance during our family's time of need.
Andrea was a matriarch. She was survived by her children, Karen O'Melia and her partner Robert Cipperly, Kevin Hayward and his wife Sandy Hayward, and Randolph Hayward.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jeffery Carpenter, Amanda Carpenter, Sarah Carpenter, and Andrew Carpenter; Jeffery Hayward, Brandon Hayward and Shania Hayward; and Nicholas Hayward and Anthony Hayward; and her sister Marie Dupee.
She loved every member of her family and always helped them however, she could. She was there when no one else could be, a sure bet, and the ultimate pillar of support. The oldest in a long line of incredible women.
Andrea was a pioneer. She drove tractors, trucks, and motorcycles. She programmed in COBOL, operated machinery, and shot pistols. She was one of the many women that challenged the mold that women were expected to be. We truly stand on the shoulders of giants.
Andrea had many hobbies. She enjoyed ice-skating, horseback riding, and knitting. She listened to Jim Reeves, Peter Paul and Mary, and The Kingston Trio. She was a jeopardy ace, pistol sharp-shooter, accountant wizard, and master quilter. She hiked mountains, baked pies, and liked a good glass of wine.
Above all, Andrea was kind. She always had time to see a school concert, drive her grandkids to work, and talk to her neighbors. Her support was always unconditional, and she always tried to see the best in others.
Calling hours will be held for Andrea from 4:00PM to 7:00PM, followed by a service, on Wednesday, August 9th, hours at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd, Watervliet, NY 12189.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society so one day, cancer may not take so many of the world's strong women.
