SCHENECTADY-Angelo B. Cerniglia, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at home with his family.
He was born in Schenectady, NY son of the late Salvatore and Rosina Cerniglia.
He attended Nott Terrace High School and was a graduate of Spencer Business Institute. Angelo was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy.
On June 6, 1954 he married Doris Overbaugh at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Schenectady, NY. Ang was an avid roller skater and that is where he and Doris met. He was a life long resident of the area. He worked at GE and retired in 1980 after 32 years of service. Ang enjoyed flying and was a member of Saratoga Soaring Association.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris; his children, Donna (Doug) Hatch, Brian (Nora) Cerniglia, Bruce (Colleen) Cerniglia, Gail Cerniglia; grandchildren, Nathan Halterman, Brett (Carla) Cerniglia, Cassie (John) Miranda, Kelly Cerniglia, Jessie (Mark) Zweigenthal, Chelsea (Darren) Leader, Rosina Torres; 5 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way; siblings, Concetta Grant, Abel (Carmella) Cerniglia, Mary Breitenstein, Carl (Joanne) Cerniglia and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his 4 brothers and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to celebrate Angelo's life will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 12:00pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. Visitation will be from 10:00am-12:00pm prior to service. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie.
