CLIFTON PARK, NY – Angelo Orofino was called home on October 16, 2009 at Schuyler Ridge, surrounded by those who loved him. He was born on October 25, 1914 in Astoria, Queens into a large Italian family filled with love and music. He married the love of his life, Teddy, in 1937 and they had two daughters, Bunny and Roberta. He had many jobs over the years but the one he considered his favorite was operating a crane for a steel company. He retired from the NYC Dept. of Sanitation in 1976 after the death of his wife and relocated to Schenectady in 1978. Angelo had two great passions: his family and music, most specifically Jazz. Thanks to the Van Dyke in Schenectady, he had the opportunity to see and meet many of his favorite musicians. He also left a legacy of stories, vignettes he wrote describing family and events of his youth. HE loved spending time with his grandchildren both here and on Long Island. In the past few years he delighted in visits from his great-grandchildren, taking special joy in each new baby. Ang's heart and door was always open and he loved hosting gatherings of the clan at his home in Van Antwerp Village. He was happiest watching the birds on his patio and visiting with neighbors. He was a man of courage and integrity; his word was his bond and he lived life practicing acts of kindness. Angelo was the last survivor of his family, following his brothers John, Michael, Vito, Frank and sister, Mary. He is survived by his daughters Bernice (Bunny) Orofino and Roberta (Anthony) Giacobello; granddaughters Kim Cognetti, Sunday (Joseph) Verrillo; grandsons Steven (Angela) and Michael (Lisa) Giacobello; great-granddaughters, Angel Cognetti, Stephanie, Michelle and Heather Giacobello; great-grandsons, Matthew and Daniel Giacobello and one great-great grandson, Nicholas Mareno. Our family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the loving care the Fenimore Unit at Schuyler Ridge gave to Angelo the last year of his life.
