COLONIE – Angelo Polito Jr., 76, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 1, 2010 at the Inn of Community Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born In Albany and was the son of the late Angelo and Theresa Armondo Polito Sr. Angelo was a 1954 graduate of the Cathedral Academy where he was an outstanding baseball and football player and earned All-Albany football honors. In 1998, he was inducted into Bishop Magin High School Alumni Sports Hall of Fame. As a young man, Angelo had worked as a mason with his father. He and his brother Vince, operated the Polito Sunoco station in Albany and later in Colonie for many years. Angelo retired from New York State Department of OGS in 1995. He stayed active with assisting his nephew at Pizza Mar'e in Colonie. He coached youth sports when his children were younger. Angelo was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and enjoyed nature and playing with his cherished grandchildren. He was a member of the Colonie Elks #2192.
He is the beloved husband of fifty years to Pauline Kinsella Polito. He is the devoted father of Jeanine (Mark) McCumber and Angelo Paul (Michele) Polito. He is the grandfather of Christopher and Jennifer McCumber, Angelo Paul Polito Jr., Jack and Adam Gaynor. Brother of Julia Saleh, Rosemary Audi, Anthony Polito, Marlene Watkins and the late Vincent Polito. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Friday morning at 8:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie then to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 9:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorys Garden. At Angelo's request, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd.
