COLONIE – Ann E. Young-Smerznak, 65, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 20, 2014. Born in Catskill, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Florence Young.
Ann was a graduate of Greenville Central High School. She was employed with New York State OGS for over 35 years. During this time, Ann worked at the Governor's Mansion as the personal assistant to Matilda Cuomo until 1995. She was also an active member of RPEA. Outside of work, Ann enjoyed traveling, RVing, cross country skiing, gardening, shopping, gourmet cooking and photography. She enjoyed spending time at the lake house on Cossayuna Lake with her husband, friends, and family. Ann was the life of the party and fashionista; she enjoyed socializing, laughing and being with her granddaughter. Ann also had a great love for wildlife and animals.
Ann was predeceased by her loving husband of 30 years, Sidney Smerznak, and brother David (Daybo) Young.
She will be greatly missed by her son and daughter-in-law Adam Smerznak and Michele DiNovo of Colonie; granddaughters Zenaida and Octavia Smerznak; brother Peter (Pedu) Young of Cairo; niece Karen (Christopher) Lopez; great-nephews Skyler and Caleb; several cousins and her beloved dog, Sheera.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 on Monday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
