CLIFTON PARK - Ann M. Simmonds (Iovino), 80, of Clifton Park, entered eternal life surrounded by her family on February 13, 2010.
Born in Schenectady, Ann was the daughter of the late Giuseppe Iovino and the late Margaret Bonitatibus. As a young girl, Ann was an avid dancer, a trait she passed along to all of her granddaughters and her great-granddaughter. During her young life, she worked in her family's grocery store, where she eventually met the love of her life, the late Robert A. Simmonds.
After graduating from Mount Pleasant High School, Ann attended beauty school in Schenectady and for a time she owned "Ann's Beauty Salon", in the Village of Colonie. Shortly after opening her beauty salon, Ann and Robert married on August 1, 1948. Ann and Robert enjoyed the birth of four children and 27 years of marriage. Robert A. Simmonds predeceased Ann on July 11, 1975 at the age of 49.
Although Ann lost her husband at a young age, Ann maintained a love of life, an adventurous spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. Above all else, Ann will be remembered for her devotion to and love of her family. In her later years, Ann was brought great joy by time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially the boys, Zachary and Drew.
Ann's survivors include her sister, Florence Muzio (Richard), and her four children: Debra Wahrman (Bob), Rowland Simmonds (Heather), Michael Simmonds (Paula), and Dawn Lajeunesse (Mark). Ann was a devoted grandmother to Tara Anne Pleat (Andy), Brittany Orologio (Ben), Zachary Lajeunesse, Lindsey Lajeunesse, Rachel Simmonds, Sarah Simmonds and was the beloved "GG" to Drew and Sophia. Ann was also survived by two nieces, Sandra Carona (Jack) and Susan Coluccio (Dominick), a grand-nephew, Anthony Carona and a grand-niece, Jacqueline Carona. Ann's second husband, Daniel C. Greene, predeceased her in 1991.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Pat, Maria, Debbie and Yvonne, the compassionate nurses who helped in making the final days of Ann's life peaceful and comfortable and who offered care and support to Ann's family.
In accord with Ann's final wishes, services will be private. Ann's body will be laid to rest aside her husband, Robert, in Memory's Garden Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in Ann's honor to Community Hospice of Saratoga County, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
