EAST GREENBUSH - Ann Apuzzi, 77, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland on April 3, 1931, Ann was very proud of her Irish heritage and all things Irish.
Ann is survived by her husband Joseph; daughter Christine (Rob) Bruck of Colonie; sons Joseph (Sheri) of Kingston, Jerry (Marianne) of Duxbury, Massachusetts and Anthony (Christianne) of Delmar; and grandchildren Joseph, Jacob, Justin, Owen, Nicholas, Liam, Grace and Stella. Grammy has a special place in the heart of all of her children and grandchildren, as she was the best mom and grammy in the whole world.
Ann was loved by all of those who knew her. Ann came to America in 1954 with her sister Ronnie and settled in Queens. It was there that she met her future husband. Ann worked at the White Castle on Northern Boulevard and Joe worked at the service station nearby.
Their family and life brought them to all corners of the United States, including New York City, New Jersey, New Mexico, Georgia, Texas, New York, Texas, Alabama, Texas (again) and Woodstock New York, where they finally settled until their later years, then moving to Florida briefly before returning to Upstate New York to be closer to their family.
Ann was a Yankees fan, and her favorite player was Derek Jeter.
The family owes a special thank you to the staff of Evergreen Commons, for the wonderful care they provided to Ann and her family.
A mass to celebrate the life of Ann will be held at noon on Saturday, March 7 at the Holy Spirit Church, 667 Columbia Turnpike in East Greenbush New York.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked those who wish to remember Ann to make a memorial contribution to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York, 1 Mustang Dr. Cohoes NY 12047.
