COLONIE – Anna M. DeStefano, 87, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Bethlehem Commons Care Center. Born in Fuera Bush, she was the daughter of the late Marion and Florian Therrien.
Anna was a resident of Colonie for 55 years and most recently lived at Colonie Terrace Apartments. She and her husband Carmine were owners of both Friendly Tavern in Colonie and Carm's Place in Albany. Anna was a member and the first female president of Albany County Restaurant and Tavern Association. She was recognized by the association as "Woman of the Year" in 1993. Anna was also a communicant of St. Clare's Church in Colonie. She enjoyed drawing and painting. Anna was an avid swimmer and a fan of the ocean and traveling to Puerto Rico and Maine. She loved spending time with her family. Anna was also a strong supporter of the American Cancer Society.
Along with her parents, Anna was predeceased by her siblings Dorothy Levenberg, Lorraine Irish and Julian Therrien.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Carmine DeStefano; children Barbara Ann Stevens of White Lake, Michigan, Carmina Marie (Thomas) Miller of Clifton Park and Carol Ann DeStefano (Ralph Squailia) of Clifton Park; siblings Paul (Marcia) Therrien and Clarice (William) Moak; grandchildren Anthony, Shawn (Tiffany), Christopher, Kevin and Daniel; great-grandchildren Jayden and Lily; lifelong friend Candee DiCaprio, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:00 am at St. Clare's Church, 1947 Central Avenue, Colonie. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.
