CHARLTON- Anna Maria Rao, 87, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at St. Peter's Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Anna was born on November 17, 1927 to the late Carmelo and Maria (Fazio) Motta, in Bafia, Sicilia, Italy. In 1953 Anna married Domenico S. Rao, with whom she shared the rest of her life. She moved to the U.S. in 1969 with her husband and two children, where she settled and began her life in Colonie, NY.
She is predeceased by her siblings; Baby Carmelo, and Grazia, and her in-laws; Pietro and Giuseppe.
She is survived by her loving husband, Domenico, her children; Marisa Finn, and Carmelo 'Charles' Rao, her grandchildren; Melissa, Kristina, and Gabriella, her siblings in Italy; Carmelo, Domenica, Pino, Mimmo, Maria, and Franco, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Anna worked at many different places during her time in the U.S., from DeBeers Baseball Factory, to JC Penney's where she worked as a seamstress for many years. Her passion in life was her family and especially her grandchildren, whom she helped raise. She loved cooking for her family, and will be remembered for her many hobbies including, gardening, knitting, and crocheting.
Funeral services will be held at 9:45 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, then to St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany Street, Schenectady, NY 12304, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie following the Mass. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2015 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
