Anne Wirth Reese, 84, passed away on April 3, 2023. Anne was born on September 28, 1938, in New York to Anne and Ernest Wirth. As a child, she loved school, her sisters and brother, and spending time on the boat.
Anne was extremely proud to graduate as an RN from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing (New York City). St Luke's was a highly competitive school for admissions and graduation, with a rigorous curriculum. Nursing wasn't just a profession for her, it was her passion. Many a nursing story was shared at the dinner table despite occasional objections from the people trying to eat.
Her family was everything to her, and her children (Susan and Nancy) were the love of her life. When her grandchildren and sons-in-law came, she had more people to love. Anne was quick to laugh and slow to anger. She didn't take herself too seriously. She laughed so much and so frequently that we believed we were all funny.
She expected her daughters to excel, go to college, and support themselves. She encouraged and supported us all along the way. Anne was a great mother and would gladly and confidently agree with us when we told her this. She was generous with "I love you" and could listen for hours without distractions. And it must be said that no one could compliment someone better than Anne – a trait she passed down to the next generation.
Anne lived in numerous places including Pelham, NY; New York, NY; Englewood, NJ; Marathon, NY; and Schenectady, NY. She loved to read, garden, and walk on the beach in Florida.
We will miss our mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, friend, and sister for who she was – an amazing person: kind, caring, and joyful.
Anne is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Dave) Martin of Naples, FL (formerly of Niskayuna, NY), Susan (Tom Hirt) Reese of Castleton, NY, and her four grandchildren: Jill and Jeffrey Martin, and Elizabeth and Andrew Bohl; her beloved sister, Cynthia Wirth Smither, her nephew, Glenn Reynolds, and her best friend from high school, Eleanor Dreyfus. She is predeceased by her sister Adella Wirth Reynolds, and her brother, Bruce Wirth. Anne's family would like to thank the staff at Kingsway, especially the nurses and aides, for their exceptional care of Anne. You went beyond expectations by delivering the extra caring touches, befriending her daughters, and answering Alexa every day.
There will be a private interment at Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic, Connecticut.
Nancy will hold a celebration of life at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (Clifton Park, NY) on May 27th for her friends in the Capital Region.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests you do what Anne would have wanted: Call someone to brighten their day.
