SLINGERLANDS, NY - Anne T. Bave died on July 8, 2012 at age 98, after a long and fulfilling life. She passed away in the company of her beloved family at her home in Slingerlands. She was preceded in death by her husband John, her sisters Natalie and Helen, and her brothers Henry, Louis and Joseph, as well as her sisters-in-spirit Ruth and Lorraine Cardillo.
Born in Worcester, Massachusetts on November 13, 1913, Anne grew up on a farm in nearby Millbury with her mother, father, two sisters and three brothers. Anne met her husband, John Windas Bave, while working in New York City, and later moved with him to Brockport, New York to raise a family. After her husband passed away in 1954, she courageously raised her three daughters, working to support them and send them to college. After retiring from Owens-Illinois and teaching sewing classes in Brockport, she moved to the Albany area to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren.
Whether riding in an open-cockpit plane, making wine, meeting an astronaut, making quilts for homeless shelters, raising orphaned wild animals, or learning to snorkel on her 90th birthday, Anne met life's challenges and joys with an adventurous spirit and a generous heart. She was a skilled gardener, a loving mother, a patient teacher, an accomplished quilter, and a good friend. She took joy in her daughters, grandchildren and friends and was a loving caretaker of the family pets, whom she spoiled endlessly.
Anne's memory will be cherished by her daughters Jean Bave-Kerwin, Barbara Bave-Myers and Jacqueline Bave; her granddaughter and husband, Emily and Augusto Giacoman, and grandson Stephen Kerwin; her sons-in-law Stephen Kerwin, James Myers and Daniel Dolan; and by her dear friends, Lisa Fox and Carolyn Jonietz.
The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to her caregiver, Juliane Clark, and to the staffs of Albany and Saratoga Hospices, especially Robaire Long, for their invaluable help and support in making Anne's final days comfortable and full of love.
A service in celebration of Anne's life will be held on Saturday July 14, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will precede the service from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
