LOUDONVILLE – Anthony Abate, 90, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Hudson Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a brief illness. Born in San Martino, Italy, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna (Simeone) Abate.
Tony and his family immigrated to the United States when he was 10 years old. He served his country in the Army Air Force Pacific Operation during WWII. Tony retired from Ford Motor Company after 42 years of service. He enjoyed cooking, playing cards and gardening. Tony loved taking care of and playing with his beloved grandchildren. He was very social and found pleasure in visits with relatives and friends.
Along with his parents, Tony was predeceased by his brothers Samuel, Dominic and Carl.
He will be missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Silvia (Buffone) Abate; children Maryann (Neil) Johanning of Loudonville and Sam (Donna) Abate of Ballston Spa; grandchildren Nicole (Brian) Matthews, Sam Abate, Chris Johanning, Angela Johanning and Amanda (Jeremy) Lasky, and several nieces and nephews.
Anthony's family is very appreciative of the kindness, care and support from their "family" at Hudson Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:45 am at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hudson Mohawk Human Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204 in his name.
