Anthony J. Ciccone

Anthony J. Ciccone, 74, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on June 2 surrounded by his loving family and friends, at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home.

Born in Schenectady, Tony is the son of the late Louis H. and Sophia G. Ciccone. He was born 11 minutes before his mirror image identical twin Joseph (Joe). He grew up in Schenectady and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1964. Tony was one of the star wrestlers in his senior year, and he and Joe were co-captains of the team. He went on to Hudson Valley Community College where he received his Associates of Applied Science in Mechanical Technology in 1966. In later years he took a Fortran IV programming language at Union College.

Tony joined the Advanced Machinist/Tool Maker Apprentice program at General Electric of Schenectady shortly after graduation from HVCC. He rose through the ranks to become foreman of several 1/4 long bays of machine tool in GE building #273. He retired from GE in 2009 as a foreman.

He met his loving wife Christine (Chris) along the way and they married in 1969, they had a daughter named Tina. Tony was drafted into the armed services, army artillery in 1970 and stationed in Germany with his wife and daughter. His assignment was an azimuth operator of the Pershing missile. It took 3 key people to launch this missile and he was one of them. His rank was Specialist 5, he later left the army with an honorable discharge.
Tony loved to do a variety of things, but what he loved the most were the 3 C's. Cars, computers and casinos. Cars were his favorite. In 1965 Tony and Joe bought a 1957 Chevy that had a cracked block for $50. That was the beginning of the hot rod craze. Being the machinist he was, they replaced the small V8 for a larger V8. It didn't stop there, they kept on adding hot rod components, started competing at drag strips, eventually beating 425 HP Corvettes. To this day Joe has the same '57 Chevy in storage.

Another hobby Tony loved was repairing TV's and electronic equipment. He even built his own Heath Kit TV and other Heath Kit electronic devices. He could be classified as a professional because he had a variety of test equipment to repair almost any TV problem, color or b/w. When he retired, he volunteered to participate in the GE Elfun Society to repair electronic equipment for the needy.

in addition to his parents, Tony is predeceased by his daughter Tina. He is survived by his wife Chris, brother Joe, grandson Chad Christensen and his wife Megan, their children Olivia and Parker, grandson Matt Christensen and his children Madelena and Tyler, nephew David (Sandra) Bonitz and several other family members.

Calling hours will be held from 11am-12pm on Wednesday June 9th, 2021 with services to follow at Noon at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie NY 12205
