Anthony "Tony" Valentine Crinieri, 88, passed through death into eternal life on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at home in Albany, NY. Tony was the beloved son of the late Antonio Crinieri and Jennie Ferrara Crinieri. He was devoted to JoAnn Fogarty Crinieri, his wife of 60 years.
Tony graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and went on to earn his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the State University of New York at Albany. Tony proudly served in the United States Army, stationed at West Point, before embarking on a 45-year career in education.
A gifted teacher and beloved professor, Tony taught high school and college in New York State before moving with his family to West Virginia to develop a Secretarial Science program. Over his 35-year tenure at West Virginia University at Parkersburg, “Mr. C” developed a reputation for being firm yet fair. He was in his element in front of the classroom, equally at ease explaining difficult concepts or using humor to add laughter to learning. Tony excelled at helping students who struggled with the course material. Even after his retirement as Professor Emeritus of Business, former students would reach out to express gratitude for the difference Mr. C. had made in their lives.
Tony enjoyed summers in Maine and frequent visits to Vermont. He found great joy in spending time with family, especially laughing with his children and grandchildren. Tony collected classic car models and loved listening to the music of Perry Como. An avid baseball fan, Tony followed the Dodgers even after they left Brooklyn.
Tony is survived by his wife, JoAnn; his children, Michael Crinieri and Cathleen McCarthy (Brian); his grandchildren, Michelle and Daniel McCarthy, and Anthony and Marco Crinieri; his brother, Joseph Capuro; his sister-in-law, Clara Crinieri; his brother-in-law, Thomas Fogarty; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by his brothers, Louis and Joseph Crinieri; and his sister-in-law, Nancy Capuro.
A funeral Mass will be held in early May at Saint John Vianney Clergy Residence, Bronx, NY, followed by burial at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Catholic Relief Services, PO Box 5200, Harlan, IA 51593 (https://support.crs.org/) or the Regional Foodbank, 965 Albany-Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110 (https://regionalfoodbank.net/).
