It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony “Tony” J. Michna on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Tony was affectionately known as Tiger by close family members, something that began when he was a child due to his love of Frosted Flakes.
Tony was born in Albany, in August 1953, to the late Anthony John Michna and Stefania Tomczak.
He was also predeceased by his elder brother, Richard in 1959.
Tony is survived by his loving sisters, Irene Yeates (late “frog”) and Mary Ann Lombardo (Anthony), who were especially close to him. Also surviving him and who loved him greatly are his nieces, Alicia (Chris) and Gina (Paulie) Lombardo and his nephew, John (Marissa) Lombardo.
Tony was "Gruncle" or Great Uncle to Grace and Paul Roark and Dominic Lombardo and spoiled each and every one of them.
Tony retired from Travelers Insurance Company after many years. Prior to this, he worked in retail, managing several different CVS stores in the capital district. More recently, Tony was working part-time at Friar Tuck Newsroom in the Rensselaer train station, where he made special friends and enjoyed people watching.
Tony attended the former St. Joseph's Academy in Albany before continuing on to the junior college of Albany. Tony received his bachelor's degree from SUNY Albany, majoring in both English and Economics.
Per Tony's wishes, services will be private.
Those who wish to remember Tony in a special way can spread a random act of kindness.
