GLENVILLE - Arletta Belle Koch died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Nyack Hospital in Nyack, N.Y. due to pneumonia and heart failure.
Arletta was born in Blooming Valley, Pa. on October 15, 1920. She moved to Schenectady in 1936 with her parents Rev. Roland M. Gray and Arletta Horton Gray, originally from Chicora Pa., when her father accepted the pastorate of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.
Arletta Gray graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and went to work at the General Electric Co. becoming supervisor in the payroll dept. She had met Arthur F. Koch when she moved to Schenectady at 15 years of age. While he was away in the Army during WWII, she worked full-time for the General Electric Co. and then volunteered as a Red Cross Nurse's Aide. When Arthur returned from the war in 1945 they soon became engaged and were married August 24, 1946. As a young mother she continued to work at G.E. and later as an auditor at Wallace's Dept. Store.
For more than 60 years, Mrs. Koch was a member of the Carman Road Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, formerly on Albany Street in Schenectady, where she taught Sunday School, was Youth Fellowship Advisor, and eventually Deaconess. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ, her family, church and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Arthur, two brothers, three sisters and a grandson – Christopher D. Wiltsie.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy K. Wiltsie and her husband, Robert of Nanuet, N.Y.; her son Timothy D. Koch and wife, Joanne of Scotia; and son Frank Fiore of Glenville. Surviving grandchildren are Kathyrn Anne Koch and husband, Patrick Anderson of Hackensack, N.J. and Skylar Fiore of Glenville. She is also survived by one brother-in-law Herbert Koch and wife Jeanette of Schenectady, twenty nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church at 3313 Carman Road (Corner of Lydius St.) Schenectady, N.Y. 12306. Calling hours will precede the service from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the church. Interment will be at Memory Gardens in Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's memory to her church listed above.
