ALBANY-Arnold Arthur Grell was born September 17, 1949 to Matthew and Mary Grell in NYC. Arnie passed into life everlasting on July 6, 2013 after a brief illness at Albany County Nursing Home, Albany.
Arnie had been baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, E. 9th St. in NYC. He graduated from Chelsea Vocational High School (NYC) Class of 1968. Arnie's proudest accomplishments were to have served in the US Navy and later was employed as Kitchen Staff at Salvation Army Residence in NYC for 19 years. Arnie enjoyed hobbies such as puzzles and all things with railroad themes. He had taken a tour of the US by rail with his friends.
Arnie is survived by his mother Mary Grell of Albany; brothers Henry (Marilyn) of NYC and David of Delmar; and by a sister Carolyn (Andy) of California. He is also survived by a nephew Christopher (Tara); great nephews and niece James, Michael and Erin and by a nephew Stephen (Maureen) and great niece Kaitlin all of New Jersey.
Arnie was most recently predeceased by his father Matthew Grell and by his aunt Anna Grell Connaughton.
Following cremation a memorial celebration of Arnie's life will be held at a future date to be determined. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capital City Rescue Mission, 259 S. Pearl Ave. Albany, NY or to the Albany County Nursing Home, 780 Albany Shaker Road Albany, NY 12211-1089 in memory of Arnie.
