Winter Springs FL- Arnold "Arnie" Lee Nussbaum passed away on September 21st at his home in Winter Springs, FL. Arnie was born in the Bronx, NY in 1953, to Henry and Sylvia Nussbaum. He attended PS 114, JHS 22, and William Howard Taft HS. In his youth he enjoyed working as a sidewalk vendor at Yankee Stadium, and he eventually started a business as a street vendor on the lower east side of Manhattan.
A man of varied talents, Arnie was a disk jockey (under the name of "Lee Hennus" on WVOX 93.5 FM in Westchester County NY). He was proud of his military service in the Army and the National Guard. He rose to the rank of sergeant as a combat medic instructor in the Army Medical Corps. He was a graduate of Empire State College. He worked as an EMT for NYC Emergency Medical Services, while studying nursing at Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing. After graduating as a registered nurse, he worked at Lincoln Hospital in the South Bronx. He eventually worked in medical sales for Neutrogena, building a multi-year career, and rising to national sales manager before his retirement.
In his retirement, he continued to pursue his varied passions and talents. He invested in townhomes and enjoyed being a landlord in Winter Springs FL, his adopted home. Much of his life revolved around helping children, especially in Central Florida. Arnie served as a guardian ad litem for Seminole County's 18th Circuit Court for 25 years, working to protect children across the region. He organized the Winter Springs Secret Santa program each year to provide toys for children in the community. In 2021, he received the Tuskawilla Homeowners Association's "Don Gilmore Community Service Association Award".
Arnie was the longtime House Emcee for the Oviedo Winter Springs Regional Chamber of Commerce. He was also the house master of ceremonies for the City of Winter Springs, and hosted many cultural and charity events all over Central Florida. He had a great speaking voice, excellent stage presence, and really enjoyed serving the community in this way. He also performed as a voice actor in local commercials and public service announcements. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing the accordion and piano.
Building on his passion for healthcare, he recently endowed a scholarship for the study of nursing at Seminole State College in Florida.
Arnie is survived by his brother Richard Nussbaum, and long time companion Pat Ramsey, as well as good friend Brian Kirkland. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Barbara Nussbaum, nephew Brian Nussbaum, nieces Elizabeth Albright and Catherine Garcia, and their families; and by cousins Irene Dutton, Michael Gutter, Stuart Gutter, Karen Israel, and Michelle Hammer of the US, and by cousins Walter Nussbaum and Sabina Nussbaum and their families, of Rome, Italy. He will also be missed by his wide circle of friends in the Central Florida area.
According to his wishes, Arnie will be buried at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
A celebration of his life will be scheduled in the near future, in the Winter Springs Florida area.
