Art passed away suddenly at his home at the age of 60. He was born and raised in Albia, New York. Son of the late Alice and Arthur G. Snay, Art attended La Salle Institute and Hudson Valley Community College, and later received his Bachelor of Arts in Electronic Music from Empire State College.
As founder and owner of Arabellum Studios, Art was a highly talented audio engineer and producer, and a key influence on the local music scene for more than 40 years. He was the inspiration and driving force behind some of the most innovative music to come out of the Capital District. His work with bands like Blotto, od, the Units, Mechanical Servants, The New Shiny Things, the Dronez and the AD's set the standard for local music production and creativity.
As Art's career progressed, he became more and more involved in complex sound design and sound-to-picture production. Working for clients like GE, Raytheon, Interface and Kodak, his work has appeared in award-winning presentations across the country and around the world – from the IMAX at the Smithsonian to the New Zealand Environmental Film Festival. His unique style and extremely high quality standards will be sorely missed by the region's production community.
Art is survived by his many, many friends who will remember and cherish his kindness, his honesty and his integrity. He was never judgmental and always encouraging. Spiritual, gentle and respectful, Art was an exceptional person with a big talent to make really great sound. He was always fun to be around.
We will miss you dearly.
A remembrance and celebration of Art's life will be held on Sunday, March 25th at Lynn's Uptown Bar, 15 Colvin Avenue, Albany, NY, from 3 to 6 p.m. For those who wish, donations can be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Art's name.
