Arthur W. Pelton Sr.
November 15, 1932 — April 15, 2018
SAND LAKE—Dr. Arthur William Pelton, Sr, 85, passed away peacefully Sunday April 15, 2018. Arthur was born in Albany NY, parents Arthur C. Pelton & Catherine E. Barney, predeceased by his brother Donald C. Pelton, sister Kathleen M. Cohen (Pelton), and married to Lillian B. Jordan of Rensselaer NY for 36 years, she was his rock, always.
A graduate of St. John's Academy of Rensselaer, Norwich University of Vermont, Masters in Education from Cambridge College, and his PhD in Music History from Fellowship Washington State University. He taught as a substitute teacher for the City of Troy, Brunswick, Berlin & BOCES schools. A lifelong learner with a passion for playing many musical instruments, occasionally performing at the Albany Symphony, played for the Yankee Doodle marching band, and a life member of The Clark institute. Arthur served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Arthur had fond memories of working Charlie Dake, founder of the Stewart's company, as well as working in Washington DC for Americorp VISTA program providing case management and job-training for disadvantaged adults & families. He believed in everyone, and that they had something to contribute to society. His passion for helping shined when serving as a Site Administrator for Albany's Public Library Volunteer Income Tax Assistant program. Later in life he worked security as a Peace Officer at NYRA in Saratoga.
He leaves behind his beloved family, son Arthur W. Pelton Jr., daughter Sandra J. Pelton, and, grandchildren Kristina Pelton, A. William (Bill) Pelton III and wife Lisa Pelton (Wilkins), Monica Sweeney, Robbie MacCue & six loved great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, NY, on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 2:00pm-5:00pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 125 Eagle St, Albany, NY 12202, on Monday, April 23, 2018, at 10:00am. Burial will be held at Saratoga National Cemetery.
