Albany- Arthur L. "Uncle Art" Gries went home to be with the Lord on October 28, 2015 at The Capital Living Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Schenectady. He was 85 years old.
The son of the late Arthur "Roy" L. and Sylvia (Chlopecki) Gries, Sr., Arthur was born on July 9, 1930 in Schenectady, NY. He left high school at the age of 16 and began his career at General Electric where he worked until his retirement.
Uncle Art was a talented oil painter, fantastic cook and had the gift of gab. He loved to travel, espec Las Vegas being one of his favorite destinations, which he referred to as the "Adult Disney World." He had often said that the best part of the trips to Las Vegas was the look on Linda and Ralph's faces the first time they saw it.
One of his greatest joys was attending birthday parties for his entire family and extended family. Later in his life he accepted Jesus Christ and this past summer he was baptized into the Christian Faith. He was a member of Faith and Love Fellowship in Rensselaer.
Uncle Art believed strongly in the power of AA and was very proud to have celebrated over 35 years of sobriety.
Arthur was survived by niece who referred to as his daughter Linda and her husband Ralph LaDuke; his niece Linda (Peter Bojarczuk) McDonough; his nephew Jack McDonough and his wife Kelly; his niece-in-law Ginny McDonough; his great nieces and nephews: Liesha (Billy) Sherman, April (Tom) Ernst, Joanna (Nicholas) DeSantis, Courtney (Dan) Grock, Peter Bojarczuk and Jeffrey McDonough; his great-great nieces and nephew: Cara, Anna, Kate, Julia, and TJ.
