Athanasios G. Karathanasis

SCHENECTADY – Athanasios G. Karathanasis, 73, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the Inn of Community Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Samos Greece and was the son of the late George and Kiriaki Karathanasis. He enjoyed fishing, Cape Cod and visiting family and friends in Greece. Athanasios is the beloved husband of 47 years to Sophia Karathanasis. He is the beloved father of Kiki Karathanasis (Josh) Blair and Dino Tzambourakis. He is the brother of Peter (Nikki) Karathanasis, Demitra (John) Zorbas and Yvonne Markakis. He is the cherished grandfather of Matheo, Sonja, Petro and Thano. Great grandfather of Dimitri. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be Monday morning at 9:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie then to St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, Whitehall Rd., Albany at 10:00. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 6 pm at the funeral home. The Trisagion service will be held Sunday at 3:30 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Mr. Karathanasis.
