August F. D'Annibale

December 17, 1938 — December 8, 2020

August "Augie" D'Annibale passed away peacefully on December 8th, 2020 with his loving family at his side. He was 81. Augie was married for 60 years to the love and joy of his life, Jo Ann. (Cataldo). Together they raised a family of 4 doting daughters, Laura (John) Bolognino, Susan (Kathy) D'Annibale-Ryan, Jenifer Taylor, and Erika "Riki" (Mitch) Poland. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Justin and Megan Taylor and Alex and Zach Poland. August was predeceased by his two brothers, John and Dominic both of Schenectady, NY. He is survived by his brother-in laws, Joseph and Kevin Cataldo, both of Albany, NY., and many extended relatives, nieces and nephews who will miss his playful banter.

Augie was born in Schenectady to Archangelo and Geltrude D'Annibale. Upon graduating high school, he embarked on a long career in art illustration. He began his vocation at Whitneys Department Store in Albany, NY., then as a fashion illustrator at Denbys. His illustrations for Ursula of Switzerland became his signature drawings. He also did freelance illustrations for many clients throughout the Capital District and later became art director at Garden Way/Troy-Built in Troy, NY. He finished his life's work into retirement at the Albany Times Union.

Augies love of art was only surpassed by his love for his family. For many years they vacationed on the dunes of Cape Cod where he enjoyed along with his wife, daughters and grandchildren, walking on the beach and bicycling the scenic roadways along the coast. Augie and Jo Ann spent many subsequent years wintering in Vero Beach, Florida and Tucson, Arizona.

During these years his passion was drawing, painting and collecting treasures discarded by their owners who couldn't see the beauty in these ordinary objects. Repurposed into art, his whimsical use of "found" items brought joy to all those who were privileged to view them. His drawings became centerpieces in his home and he selflessly shared his art with his family and friends. His artistic talents were brought to life by the beautifully landscaped yard at his home in Albany and a vast collection of plants in colorful pottery adorn the interior.

He was a man filled with a love of life and family. God Bless him on his next journey.

A celebration of his life will be held in the Spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St Judes Children's Research Hospital
