LOUDONVILLE, NY – Baltus A. Gottschalk, 91, of Loudonville, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Albany Memorial Hospital. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Arthur L. and Anna Prime Gottschalk. He was raised in North Albany and lived in Loudonville for over 55 years. Baltus was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and was the first four year graduate of Siena College, receiving highest honors for chemistry, physics and mathematics. He received his master's degree from R.P.I. Mr. Gottschalk worked for Knolls Atomic as a nuclear physicist before his retirement. Baltus enjoyed foreign travel and was an avid NY Mets fan. His greatest love was his family and he enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren. Baltus is the beloved husband of 59 years to Mary Ayers Gottschalk. He is the devoted father of Sharon Grant of Colonie, Anna McClane of Latham, Mary C. Gottschalk of Menands and Robert A. Gottschalk of Warwick, NY. He is the cherished grandfather of Christine "Chrissy" McClane, Michael F. DeSanta, Mark and Jeffrey Palmer and Stephanie Gottschalk. The family would like to thank the Eddy Ford Nursing Home for the great care they gave to "Pops" as well as Dr.'s Michael Scher, John Bennett, Harold Sokal, Joseph Fay, Vincent Monaco and Edward Bennett and the caring ER staff, the 4th and 6th floor staff at Albany Memorial Hospital and Rensselaer County Hospice.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to St. Pius X Church, Loudonville at 10:30 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Pius X Parish (Eucharistic Ministry), 23 Crumite Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211 in memory of Baltus A. Gottschalk.
