Barbara A. (Filkins) Maguire

ALBANY-Maguire, Barbara A. (Filkins)- Nanny entered a peaceful sleep surrounded by the love of her family and friends on Monday, September 7, 2015. She enjoyed 78 years of life. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Anne and Arnold Miller and sister to Mary-Lou, Anne, Kay, and Joyce. She graduated from Albany High School and made her career at a local answering service. In retirement, she enjoyed the company of her family and friends whom she always held in the highest regard. She loved watching her family grow and cherished photos of these memories. She shared her life with her beloved, David Filkins, who has been by her side for nearly 50 years. She is survived by her children Paul (Rita) Maguire, Tracy Winnie, Eric (Liz) Filkins, and Rachel (Chris) Carroll. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Sean (Amie) and Shannon Maguire, Kristen Winnie, Erica and Kayla Filkins, and Christian and Zachary Carroll. She also had the fortune to watch her great-grandchildren Breya Filkins and Emily and Jack Maguire grow. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her grandson Lance Filkins and her son-in-law David Winnie, who were certainly among the first to welcome Nanny into eternal life. She will be missed everyday but most especially, she will be noticeably absent from the kitchen table at holidays and family gatherings. Visitation hours will be Thursday September 10 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY. A funeral service will be held Friday, September 11 11:00am at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery in Glenmont.
