Barbara Anne Dragon, age 79 of Albany, New York, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024. A devoted nurse and cherished family member, Barbara lived a life full of service, music, and passion for her roots.
Barbara dedicated over 40 years to the nursing profession after graduating from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Amsterdam, New York. She began her career at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady, where her compassion and expertise touched countless lives. She later served as a school nurse for the Schenectady School District, caring for students and staff with unwavering commitment. Barbara's career continued with US Home Care, where she held the position of Director of Nursing. Her career culminated with Living Resources, also as the Director of Nursing where she provided leadership and guidance to her colleagues. Barbara was a skilled reader, gifted writer and communicator and due to her detailed knowledge of home health nursing regulations, was lovingly given the nickname of “Policy Queen”.
In addition to her professional achievements, Barbara was an active member of the Choraliers Choir in Schenectady for 30 years, sharing her love of music with the community. She also had a deep passion for travel, particularly to Ireland. Barbara's connection to Ireland was profound; she frequently visited the country, immersing herself in its rich culture and landscapes. Her trips were not just vacations but journeys into her family's heritage. Barbara devoted countless hours to genealogical research, uncovering the stories and histories of her ancestors, and fostering a deep connection to her roots.
Above all, Barbara cherished her family. Her love and dedication to her loved ones was unparalleled. She was blessed with six beautiful granddaughters and four great grandchildren with a fifth on the way, due in October. She also was a devoted sister and aunt. She cherished her time spent with her family members. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and devotion.
Barbara is survived by her sister Connie (George) McNally, her children, Lisa (Gary) Prye, David (Christin) Dragon and Michael Dragon. Her grandchildren: Lexy (Kyle) Dragon, Taylor Dragon, Kelsey (Peter) Whitaker, Lindsey (Matthew) Guarasce, Bella Dragon, Eula Dragon and her great-grandchildren, Wesley and Cassandra Whitaker, Myles Dragon, William Guarasce, and Baby Boy Dragon due in October, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents John Murphy and Mary Louise Murphy, her sister Eileen (Mary) Harter, her brother Jack (John) Murphy and her son Christopher Dragon.
Barbara will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable life.
