SCHENECTADY – Barbara E. Becker, 86, of Woodlawn, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Barbara was born on February 6, 1922 in Alplaus and was the daughter of the late William Arthur and Maude (Joslin) Van Vranken. She graduated from Scotia High School and Spencer Business Institute. She was a bookkeeper for Schenectady Municipal Housing Authority for 24 years before retiring in 1984. She was an avid reader, enjoyed her cats and watching baseball, playing cards and games, but most especially spending time with her family.
Barbara is survived by her children, Gary A. (Barbara) Becker of Colonie, Glenn A. (Joanne) Becker of Glenville, Pamela E. Becker of Schenectady and George A. (Sharon) Becker of Glenville; her grandchildren, Bonnie (Don) Sturdevant, Betty Becker, Amy (Bob) Pogorzelski, Kimberly (George) Hawley, Jamie Becker and Adam Becker; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Manley S. Becker; her brothers, Joslin Eugene Van Vranken and Donald Arthur Van Vranken and her sister, Doris Irene Baynes.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Park.
