Barbara J. Fitch

Schenectady- Barbara J. Fitch, 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, May 21, 2021. Born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Theodora and John William Wierzchowski. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Jack D. Fitch Sr.
During her working career Barbara worked as a paralegal, accountant and an administrative assistant. Barbara was heavily involved in politics and also served as president and vice president of the Mont Pleasant Neighborhood Association. She also enjoyed working the election polls each year and also as a leader in the Girl Scouts. She enjoyed gardening and had such a big heart for animals and helping others even receiving an award for helping individuals with disabilities. Barbara was active in the Capital District Youth Chorale as a parent advisor. She was extremely generous with her time and resources.
In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by her children Heather Aguirre (Ron Wiederhold), Allicia Friguletto (Peter) and Jack D. Fitch Jr.
She is also survived by her ten grandchildren whom she loved very much and her sister Karen Mercier.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave, Schenectady, NY 12302
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 from 4pm-6pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie, NY 12205. A memorial service will follow at 6pm. Interment will be held Friday, May 28, 2021 at 9:30am at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
