Barbara A. Furthman

Barbara A. Furthman, 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025 with her loving family by her side. She was born in the Bronx, the daughter of the late James and Edna (Cahill) Jackson. 

Barb was a member and a communicant of St. Pius X Church. She graduated in 1979 from Misericordia Nursing School. She worked for St. Peters Hospital, Samaritian Hospital and The Stratton VA Medical Hospital for many years until her retirement in 2024. Her work ethic and devotion to the nursing profession was unparalleled. 

Barb was a dedicated mother, making sure her children were always taken care of. She loved to travel to Cape Cod and the beach, she felt like she was at home when she was near the ocean. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends especially with her grand-puppy, "Dart". 

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brothers, Tracy Smith and James Jackson. 

Barbara is survived by her children, Emily and Owen (Kaylah Smith) Furthman. Her sisters and brother, Andrew, Maryann and Virginia Jackson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Jen and Chris Smith who were there to comfort her, as well as many family members and friends.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY on Friday January 10, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday January 11, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Pius X Church. Burial will be private at a later date.
