Albany, NY- Barbara (Gage) Lueders died peacefully at Good Samaritan Nursing Home on Wednesday, March 8, 2006, near Albany, New York. Barbara was just four days short of her 92nd birthday. She was born in Minneapolis on March 12, 1914.
Barbara's parents were Daphne Murray (Beals) from Minneapolis & Joseph P. Gage from Jamestown, North Dakota & Minneapolis. Joseph Gage and Daphne E. Murray were married on August 21st, 1911. Joseph or Joe Gage was a grain trader and his brother Charles Gage was President of the Winnipeg Grain Exchange. The Gage family lived both in Minneapolis & Winnipeg tracing their American ancestry back for many generations. The Gage family immigrated to the United States from England as early settlers to the New World.
Barbara was an RN and graduated from Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis. In 1935 she left her nursing profession in Minneapolis and moved to Winnipeg with her family. As a young mother and home maker she established herself in Albany, NY. In the mid 1950's Barbara owned and operated "Hart's African Violet Green House" in New Salem, New York She was a member of the Hudson-Mohawk African Violet Society and was well known for her award winning violets. After raising her family she returned to Minneapolis in 1961 and joined the maternity nursing staff at Eitel Hospital. It was during this period in her life she met Bill Lueders whom she married and enjoyed many joyous happy years together. Bill Leuders predeceased her in 1983.
Her love was endless for her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Barbara is survived by her son Frank Gage Botterell and wife Carol of Palm Desert, CA., grandchildren, Kate Botterell, Douglas and wife Audra, and great-grandchild Alexander Botterell, her son John Joseph Botterell and wife Stephanie of Falls Church VA, and grandchild Palma Jean Botterell, her son Peter Armstrong Hart of Virginia Beach VA., grandchildren Bret and wife Alice and great-grandchildren Julia and Ian from Staten Island, NY and grandchildren Frank and wife July of Virginia Beach, and her son Richard Hart of Burlington, Vermont, and three Grandchildren Mike, Charlie, and Otie.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 11th at Memory's Garden, in Colonie, NY. All relatives and friends are welcome to attend.
