COLONIE- Barbara V. Horton, 83. It is with great sadness that Barbara's daughters said goodbye to their beloved mother on Monday, January 1, 2017 at St. Peter's Hospital. After spending Christmas Eve with her family, commenting numerous times how blessed she was, she fell ill on Christmas morning.
She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Horton and is survived by their daughters Wendy Mitchell, Deborah Legge, Patti (David) Kellerman, Judith (Michael) Ooms; her sister Beverly Holmes; twelve grandchilderen; several nieces and nephews; and one great grandson.
The daughter of Clarence and Erma Voorhees grew up in North Syracuse, NY. In 1953 she married Donald whom she had met in grade school. Barbara worked in the North Syracuse school sytem until they moved to Albany in 1962. The devoted wife and mother worked several jobs in the medical field until she retired in 1986.
Barbara was an active member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church. She served on many committees and was on the Board of Trustees. She enjoyed painting ceramics and participating in craft shows. Her greatest passion was her family. Nothing made her happier than to have them all around her, Barbara was mom to many and Grams to many more.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, on Thursday, January 5, 2017, from 4:00pm-8:00pm. A funeral service will be held at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 1580 Central Ave. Colonie, NY 12205 at 10:00am on Friday, January 6, 2017. Burial will be held at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie, NY.
Donations may be made in Barbara's name to Pine Grove United Methodist Church.
