Colonie- Barbara A. Lucas, 81, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2021 at Shaker Place Rehabilitation & Nursing Center surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 31, 1940 daughter of the late William and Mary (Langley) Wertman.
Barb was a lifelong resident of Colonie. She grew up on the family farm located at what is now known as The Crossings of Colonie. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning and fishing. Barb's greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, being outside and caring for her family and home. Barb loved knitting and crocheting and enjoyed donating her homemade crafts for those in need. She and her husband were both members of St. Clare's Church and attended Mass at St. Francis Chapel.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Ken Lucas, Sr.; their children, Kenneth G. Lucas, MD (Anna), Judith A. Lucas, MD; grandchildren, Kenneth Lucas (Erin), Amelia Lucas, David Gerson, Matthew Gerson; siblings, William Wertman (Rose), Joan Bauman (Clifford), Richard Wertman (Deborah); a special cousin, Carole Malo and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Barb's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Shaker Place for their kind and compassionate care.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 10am-12pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. A service to celebrate her life will begin at 12pm. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Sacred Heart Food Pantry, 965 Albany Shaker Rd, Latham, NY 12110.
