After a long illness, Barbara Ann (Coles) Pounds, (Nana) 81, of Albany, New York, was called to her eternal resting place on March 27, 2021.
Her parents' death precedes her; Thomas Coles and Lela (Coles) Simmons, her husband Ollie Pounds Jr., and son Anthony (Tony) Pounds.
She is survived by her stepsisters, Velma, Burnetta, Margaret, Gloria, stepbrothers Michael and Alvin, of Washington, DC. Her son Ollie Jerome Pounds, her daughters Sandra (Pounds) McFadden (William) and Annetta (Pounds) White (William). Her grandchildren: Brandee, Sitara, Daylon, Cameron, Bryson (Shanee), Telisa, and Clayton; and brother in law, Carl Lovelady. Twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, other relatives, and the Albany Adult Learning Center family.
On April 10, 1939, Barbara entered this world in her hometown of Stevenson, Alabama. She married Ollie Pounds Jr. of South Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and moved to New York, where they started a family. After many years of dedicated service, Barbara retired from the Albany City School District.
She was known for nurturing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and frequent family gatherings. She loved bowling and playing bingo, and working on crossword puzzles and computer games. She enjoyed trips to OTB and the Saratoga Raceway with her dear friend Rose. She enjoyed baking 7-Up pounds cakes and sweet potato pies for the family. Nana was the matriarch of the family, always there for everyone and will be deeply missed.
A viewing will be held on (April 5th, 2021 9-11) at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, New York. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park, 2150 Central Avenue, Colonie, New York.
Gathering size within our chapels will be based on the most current NYS occupancy requirements.
Masks are required and social distancing is to be observed inside and outside of our chapels.
