Barbara M. Selmer

East Greenbush- Barbara Marie Selmer passed away at the age of 87 on August 2, 2018 at her home in East Greenbush, NY. Her daughter Jeanne lived with her during her final months and her daughter Patricia stayed with them during her final days.

Barbara was born in Orange, New Jersey in 1930. Her parents were Nelson Wilson and Ethel Jean (Macdonald) Wilson. With the onset of the Great Depression…her parents moved to Earlton, NY, the homestead of her father's family. After graduating from Greenville Central School…Barbara married Robert Selmer and had seven children: Nelson, Patricia (Charlie), Mark, Jeanne (John), Michael (Susie), Jeffrey (Melissa) and Theodore (Liz). She had nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She raised strong, independent, and resourceful children. Barbara is survived by her younger sister, Dorothy Richardson, Florida and her cousins, Cathy Brennan Barber and Tommy Brennan, Earlton, NY.

Barbara was a dedicated mother, housewife and active participant in community activities. In the late 1970's, she set out on her own working for the New York State Assembly, running for Assembly in her home district (narrowly losing) then settling in at OGS from which she retired. Never one to sit still… once retired she became active in her homeowners association and running the community pool. Barbara will be cremated then rest beside her parents. God Bless her. She lived a meaningful, fulfilling life.
