Barbara A. Van Geest

Colonie- Barbara A. Van Geest, 73, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 14, 2021 with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of the late William and Alberta Parr. Barbara was the devoted wife to Laurens C. Van Geest. They were married 53 years.

After graduating from high school, Barbara received her Bachelors degree in Nursing from Albany Memorial. Barbara prided herself in the care she gave all of her patients. Barbara was the President and Treasurer of the St. Peter's Women's Auxiliary for many years.

Barbara enjoyed spending time with her entire family especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed crafts, painting, and dancing. Barbara was gifted with the ability to play many instruments.

In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth J. Van Geest; son, Jon L. (Megan) Van Geest; sister, Catherine (Edward) Donohue; grandchildren, Trevor, Lily and Violet; and nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Barbara is predeceased by her brother William R. Parr, Jr.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, New York on Friday May 21, 2021 from 4pm-6pm.

A memorial service will follow starting at 6pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Barbara's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
