Barry Spooner

March 10, 1947 — November 7, 2013

COLONIE-Barry E. Spooner, 66 of Colonie, NY passed away at Albany Medical Center on Thursday, November 7, 2013. He was born in Albany, NY the son of the late Oscar and Geraldine Lynn Spooner. Barry graduated from Albany High School in 1965 and then enlisted in the US Navy. After finishing his term with the Navy, Barry was an Operating Engineer. In 1973, Barry was the Second Deputy Director to the NYS Assembly. He retired from the legislature after 30 years of service on December 31, 2002. Barry enjoyed deep sea fishing, golf and NASCAR. He was a member of the VFW Zaloga Post on Everett Rd and a member of the West Albany volunteer Fire Department #1 and the Fuller Rd. Fire Department.
Barry is survived by his wife Janith Frey Spooner; his daughter Kim DeSantis (Vincent) and grandchildren Rachel, Colleen and DeAnna. He is also survived by his step children Shawn and Linda, Rosa and Al and Joseph and by his step grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Albany Medical Center, especially the Intensive Care Unit for the exceptional care and compassion that was given to Barry.
Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 AM on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
Interment will be at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Make A Wish foundation in memory of Barry.
