Beatrice M. Sano

June 14, 1934 — March 1, 2025

Sano, Beatrice D’Augustine – passed away peacefully at home on a beautiful sunny morning, March 1, in the loving company of her husband. Born in Albany she was the daughter of the late Louis D’Augustine and Mary Rose Lanese. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 68 years, John J. (Dukie) Sano, and her loving and endearing son, John D. Sano (Anna Nunez) of Niskayuna, daughter Nicole Sano Zigler (Clay) of Indianapolis, and sister Lois De Mercurio (Joe Tybush). She was the grandmother of Ashlee Sano (Christopher Mundell), Jennifer Ridgeway, the late Jeffrey Ridgeway, and Connor Sorensen. She is survived by six great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Shirley Sano Norton (late Ned Norton), June Sano (Christopher DePersia), the late Germaine Sano, and her cousins in Albany and Ohio. She was the loving Aunt Bea Bea to seven nieces and nephews. She had very fond memories of growing up in Albany’s South End and picnics and parties with her many relatives in the Italian section of West Albany. She graduated from Cathedral Academy and Cardinal McCloskey, and worked for more than 40 years for the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles. She spent her retirement years living in both Florida and New York, before returning to the Capital Region. All her life, Bea Bea was an exceptionally endearing woman - she was not only intelligent - but was also high spirited, kind and graceful, and was certainly courageous and resourceful in any type of quandary. She was talented, too, and knitted her children, and each one of her nieces and nephews, a special Christmas stocking and gave it to them on their very first Christmas. She often made hats and mittens, and until she was 88, she knitted scarves. She was an avid reader, and loved lounging in the sun near a pool or lake with a good book and a small glass of wine. She loved boating, bingo night, music, parties, and pastries. She spoiled everyone she knew her with kind friendship, love, and careful advice. She will be remembered for all the very special love she gave, and for all of her amazing, savory, and exceptionally delicious Italian food. Everyone in her company, whether family or friend, was certainly surrounded by merriment and well fed, and treated with kindness. She always said, when I pass on, do not cry, sing a song.
