ALBANY – Benjamin A. (Bernardino) Caputo, 88, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at home. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Gerome and Anna (Picciano) Caputo.
Benjamin spoke fluent Italian, as his family was originally from Italy. He served his country during WWII in the Air Force. He enjoyed speaking about his time in the military and showing his war memorabilia. He was also a member of the VFW and Elks Club. Benjamin worked for the Watervliet Arsenal and the Sun Oil Company. In his free time he enjoyed ballroom and square dancing, shooting pool, and spending time with his family. Benjamin proudly played the clarinet and saxophone. After retiring, he traveled to Spain, Italy, Greece, Brazil and many other countries.
Benjamin is survived by his daughter, Joyce Gannon of Colonie; 2 grandchildren Michael and Kelly Fronk; sister Esther Jasinski, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11:30 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Memorial calling hours will precede the service from 9:30 to 11:30 at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
