ALBANY - Benjamin J. Sano, 83, passed away July 24, 2014. He was the son of the late Angelo and Anne Sano; husband of Margaret (Spagnolo) Sano.
Ben was a 1948 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy; attended Siena College before joining his father at A.B. Sano and Son, Inc., building and remodeling contractors. He stayed active in the business until 2006, but continued with carpentry and woodworking after his retirement. Being a carpenter was his great joy in life next to his family. Ben was a past president and active member of the Italian American Community Center where he made many lifelong friends including the "Birthday Boys," with whom he shared his passion for his Italian heritage. He was also a former member of the Army National Guard.
Survivors include his wife Margaret of 62 years; children Rosanne (John) McFarland; Robert (Ruth) Sano; Jeannine (Peter) Scavullo; William (Deborah) Sano; Paul (Christine) Sano; and Stephen (Victoria) Sano; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; his sisters Eleanor Clark, Gloria Lambert and Rita Bennett.
Calling hours will be Monday, July 28, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home in Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Benjamin on Tuesday July 29th at 9 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany; interment at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
