Benjamin Steven Vancik, 43, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023, in Albany, New York.
Ben was born January 31, 1980, and attended Bethlehem Central schools. He earned a bachelor's degree in Classics, Greek, and Latin from SUNY
Binghamton and a post-baccalaureate certificate in Classical Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. Ben worked in document preservation and was contemplating a career in public service. In addition to classical languages and culture, Ben loved media—music, movies, and books—from all eras. He was a dedicated vegan and animal lover; an avid amateur chef who enjoyed preparing food for both family dinners and Albany-area soup kitchens; and a long-time runner who was proud to have completed the 2017 Mohawk Hudson River Marathon. Ben was bright, complex, principled, and deeply loved by his family.
Ben is survived by his parents, Jerald and Joan; a sister, Claire; maternal aunts Virginia (John) and Annette (Paul); and cousins Lauren (Bill), Nick (Katie), Michael (Maureen), Garin (Alexandra), and Celeste.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ben's name may be made to The Food Pantries for the Capital District, www.thefoodpantries.org.
