Bernadette A. Henry, 65, of Glenmont, passed away on February 26, 2021 at Albany Medical Center.
Born in Albany, she is the daughter of the late Bernard and Anne Breeyear and was a proud graduate of Mercy High School and Maria College.
Bernadette was always very kind. Even when confined to her bed in the nursing home, she was the go-to person to call for advice and help. She never said no. Bernadette was a deeply devoted friend to many and fostered many children. She was always grateful for the company of Mena Akned, Hani Akned and Christopher Dodway, whom she loved dearly and unconditionally. A passionate animal lover, she was pre-deceased by her beloved Effie and Eleanor. Bernadette had a lifelong interest in helping others. Despite her own health challenges from birth, she worked in the dental and medical fields and did social work at Albany County to help others. A voracious reader, Bernadette enjoyed deep, intellectual conversations about life and the world. She loved Jeopardy! and other game shows. Bernadette loved history, especially Eleanor Roosevelt and the history of the RMS Titanic. She was a member of the Titanic Historical Society. Bernadette loved travel and her pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi was a highlight of her spiritual and temporal life. Bernadette was blessed with wonderful neighbors and they enjoyed many delightful evenings at the fire pit.
Bernadette bravely endured the last year without visitors due to the Covid protocols, but she made the most of it with telephone calls with Father O'Connor, the Henry family and her dear sisters and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother Bernard A. Breeyear, brother-in-law Brian Dunphy and her sister Bridget A. Frese.
Bernadette is survived by her husband Glendon Henry and the Henry family, sisters Deborah Breeyear (Tom Gannon), Elizabeth Dunphy and Charlotte Davis (Roy Davis), sister-in-law Mary Breeyear, nephews and nieces; Bernard Breeyear III, Rebecca Breeyear, Daniel Breeyear, Colleen Dunphy Johnson (Eric Johnson) and Patrick Dunphy (Joanna Scoggins) and many great nieces and great nephews. She is also survived by many dear friends including life-long friends, Jeanette Allen and family, Karen Jennings, Marie Krzanowskiand Billy and Norma Sabbott.
The family wishes to thank Father Francis O'Connor for the decades of spiritual guidance and support to Bernadette and to our family. His frequent visits and phone calls with Bernadette, including in her last hours, were of great comfort to her.
A memorial mass will be held later this Spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Center for Disability Services, 314 South Manning Boulevard, Albany, NY 12208.
