Bernadine Johnston

ALTAMONT – Bernadine "Deane" Johnston, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, with her loving family by her side. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Domenick and Florence Garramone. She has resided in Altamont since 1956. Deane was a proud graduate of Vincentian Institute. She worked as a secretary for New York State Department of Mental Hygiene, was an office manager for J. J. Newberry's and a secretary for I.B.E.W. Local #166 until retirement. Deane enjoyed being at home, gardening, sewing and cooking. She had a great love for all creatures.

Deane was the beloved wife of the late Richard G. Johnston. She is the devoted mother of Judee Ann (Albert) Miller of Delmar, Laura Lawton of Altamont, Kerry R. (Marybeth) Johnston of Altamont, Michele (Norwig) Debye-Saxinger of Kinderhook and Paula (Neil) Grogin of Latham. She is the loving sister of Maureen (William) Wright of Leander, TX and the late Leonard Garramone. Deane is the cherished grandmother of Albert Miller III, Randall (Rebecca) Miller, David Miller, Dana (Conrad) Balejko, Thomas R. Lawton, Zachary Johnston, Alexander Johnston, Ian Johnston, Maria Debye-Saxinger and Tristan Debye-Saxinger. She is the adoring great-grandmother of Cayce Miller and Chloe Balejko. Also surviving are her dear friends, Edward and Margaret Krause, Bertha Pierce and David, Elfie and Patricia Erickson as well as many nieces and nephews. A special thank you is extended to Deane's family physician and friend, Dr. Hedy Migden.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Lucy's Church in Altamont. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Bernadine Johnston.
