Bernard Franklin Avery (son of the Living God), born October 7, 1955, in Brooklyn, NY; to the late Shropshire Avery, Jr. (Ma'Daddy), and the late Pattie Mae Avery-Goode (Mama).
Bernard was preceded in death by his beloved brother Carl W. Avery, Sister Sheila Peebles-Knight, sons Kyleal Avery and Ja-Lil Peterkin-Avery, Grand-child Carlaykah Lumpkin. Nephews, Maurice Peebles, Antoine Obie, and Niece Jennifer Callwood.
He graduated from Boys & Girls High School, Brooklyn, NY and worked for the NYC department of Sanitation. Bernard quickly learned the art of being an entrepreneur, mastering the streets of New York City, and he Co-Owned a store in Brooklyn, He simply knew how to get paid. Can we say straight up hustler!
Affectionately known as: Dad, Daddy, Papa, Grand Pa, Brother, Bernie, Uncle B, Mr. B, My Boy! Loved by many, cherished by all, respected by everyone! He was Pattie's Boy!
He came from a stalwart lineage of valent and courageous men who were his mentors: Uncle Charles, Uncle Johnny Lyons, Spellman, Shropshire, Uncle James, Uncle Bootsie, Uncle Elmo. The list is inexhaustible. These men taught Bernard the value of family, the gift of love, and the joy of brotherhood. He was a leader among men! This man of God and follower of Christ Jesus would give you the shirt off of his back! He will Live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Bernard Franklin Avery, now living in the halls of eternity, leaves a legacy. His son Marlon Avery, two daughters, Sophia Avery, Ja-nea Peterkin-Avery, two brothers Hilton G. Avery (Veronica) and Patrick L. Avery (Janaie), Three Sisters, Carolyn Avery Boone (William Deceased), Toni Worrell-Avery (Reggie deceased), Yvonne Wheeler (Freddy). Grand Kids, Anavie Hicks, Ramel Green, Nagi Hicks, Shariff Hicks, Aniya Avery, Ma'Lani Avery, and Carniesha Lumpkin. Also, ex-wife Beverly Hicks, God-daughter, Ka-era Morant, friend Sabrina Peterkin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
