Albany - Bernard F. Quimby, 85, of North Chatham, passed away at his home on Friday, May 11, 2018. Born and educated in Yonkers, NY, he was the son of the late Vernard and Mary Quimby.
Bernie was a graduate of Saunders Trade School. He served his country as a Marine Sergeant during the Korean War. After the war, he joined the Carpenters Union in Yonkers, NY and retired in 1994. Bernie was actively involved in the Boy Scouts and Camp Rotary in Poestenkill for over 40 years and was also an avid collector and historian of Native American goods and culture and over the years did numerous presentations for schools across the Capital District.
Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Rose M. (Matero) Quimby, whom he married on October 25, 1953; his 2 sons, Richard V. (Catherine) Quimby of Pittsboro, North Carolina, Vernard "Jay" F. Quimby (Laura Spaulding) of North Greenbush, NY and 1 daughter, Phyllis Quimby-Hesler (Jeffrey) of Rotterdam, NY. His is also survived by his 2 loving granddaughters, Samantha J. Hesler and Rachel L. Quimby; and 2 sisters, Catherine Himick of Yonkers, NY, and Marilyn Quadrini of Slingerlands, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home at 3:00 pm. Interment will be at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 12:00 pm.
