ALBANY
One Journey Ends and Another Begins, Travel in Peace Brother.
Bernard Paul Thomas, Sr., aka "Big Bernie" was born in Albany New York on June 7, 1954, to Milton and Bernice Thomas. He lived in the capital district for most of his life; residing in Albany until the family moved to Schenectady during his teen years and subsequently returned to Albany as an adult. As a youth, Bernie excelled in sports, particularly in baseball and basketball. He was also a gifted artist, proficient in drawing and working with watercolors. He created numerous canvases that he gift to family and friends.

He served his county as a Marine in Okinawa, Japan

He was a valued employee with Albany Management company for 25 years. You could often find him hanging outside of his workplace on Broadway hatting with people. Anyone that knew him would describe him as a nice guy. His greatest joy was his family, he would speak of them often and when he did his face lit up. Big Bernie could be quiet and withdrawn at times but you could not have had a better friend.
We have lost a true soldier and God has gained an angel.

Big Bernie is survived by his three sons; Bernard (Jessica)Thomas Jr., Nodell Thomas and Devin Thomas; sister Lillian Thomas-Smith; two aunts; Christine Parsons and Audrey Owens; one uncle, Richard Parsons, his longtime companion Lorraine Mckenzie.
