SELKIRK- Bertram "Bert" McMillen, 77, passed away in his home surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Bert was born March 24, 1944 in Albany, New York. He was the son of Floyd and Geraldine (Amsdell) McMillen.
Bert grew up in South Bethlehem, NY, graduating from Ravena, Coeymans, Selkirk High School 1961. He joined the navy after graduation and was stationed in Newport, Rhode Island. His ship, the USS Calcaterra, played a role during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After the Navy, he attended Hudson Valley Community College. He worked as a mason for several years, and eventually started his own successful business that lasted until his retirement in 2019.
Bert spent his adult life enjoying time with "his girls", friends, and grandchildren. Many memories were made camping, family getaways to Hawaii, Maine and Disney. His passion was fishing, and he especially loved his winter trips to Florida with his fishing buddy Phil for the BIG ones! He will be remembered for his humble spirit, kind demeanor, infectious laugh and delicious Bloody Marys.
Bert is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Linda (Allendorph); his two daughters Rachael (Jon) Rogers and Rebecca (Tom) Paddock; his five grandchildren Jonathan, Riley, Jenna, Samantha and Ainsley; his brother Michael McMillen (Jonelle), sister and brother in laws Andrea and Michael Cooper, Glenn and Rhonda Allendorph, and James and Lisa Allendorph; his special godchildren Benjamin Dawson, Harrison Lehmann, and Alexandra Fish; and nieces and nephews Sarah (Bryan), Patrick (Marcy), Adam (Trish), Allie (Mark), Stewart (Nicole), Mary (Kendall) and Angelina (Bill).
Calling hours will be held on Monday December 6, 2021 from 4-7 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday December 7, 2021 at 10am, Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Ave., Albany, NY 12203.
