Bessie L. Larue

Bessie Louise LaRue, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Van Rensselaer Manor with her loving family by her side.

Bessie was born in Sumter, SC and was the daughter of the late Lee Anderson and Hattie Keith. As a young woman she moved to Jersey City, NJ where she worked and raised her four children. Years later she met and married Richard LaRue and lived in Troy, NY for 4 years. Bessie and Richard moved to Taberg, NY where she devoted her life to raising and caring for over 75 foster children, while continuing her career in the Medical field. In 1991 Bessie retired and moved to Rembert, SC where she was a member of the Pine Grove AME Church.

She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her entire family and loved cooking and baking for them.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Richard of over 32 years; her son, William Dyer II; her daughter, Barbara Dyer-Staton; her brothers, George and Benjamin Gathers and her 2 sisters; Dorothy Lamas and Sara Anderson.

Bessie is survived by her brother, Sammie (Ann) Keith; her sister, Vivian "Toot" McDonald; her children, Alfonso Dyer, Debra (Lorenzo) Triblet, Norman "Chris" (Kathy) Jones, Anthony "Tony" (Sandra) Davis and Janet (Courtney) LaRue. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Nathan Mitkoff, MD, New York Oncology and Hematology, St. Peters Hospital, Community Hospice, Adept Home Health Services and Van Rensselaer Manor for all of their care and compassion given to Bessie.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday July 6, 2017 at 12:00 pm at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 11 to 12. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York 4 Pine West Plaza Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Bessie.
