STONY POINT, NY - Beth Anne (Hiss) Farkas passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 57 years old.
Beth is survived by her sons, Shawn Farkas (Katherine), Scott Farkas (Christy Taylor) and Brian Farkas. She is also survived by her parents, J. G. Fred and Marialyce Hiss, her brothers John (Barbara) Hiss, and David (Laurie) Hiss, her sister Judy (John) Giovannetti, nieces Danielle and Kimberly Hiss, nephew Trevor Hiss and many loving cousins, aunts and uncles. She is survived by long-time companion Tony Suazo and many dear friends, including long-time friends Gurran and Patricia Kane and Barbara and Kevin O'Dell.
Beth was born April 17, 1956 in Syracuse, NY. She was a member of the Roessleville Presbyterian Church. Beth graduated from Colonie Central High School and was valedictorian of her class in 1978 from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY. She received her master's degree in Speech Pathology in 1980 from Columbia University in New York City. She worked as a speech pathologist for the Alcott School, culminating in her becoming the Executive Director of the agency in 2009. Beth had made Stony Point, NY her home since she moved there in 1983.
In addition to her incredible work schedule, Beth and her family were active members of the Just for Fun Baseball League, serving the North Rockland community. She was president of the organization for 19 years and, together with a team of loving friends, was instrumental in creating a league that provided a positive social experience for children engaged in a team sport. She was also extremely active in Boy Scout Troop 10, and could be found every year, decorating wreaths and selling trees and wreaths during the holiday season.

Calling hours for Beth will be at the New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road in Albany, NY 12205 on Sunday, June 16, 2013 from 3-6 pm. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 11 am. A Memorial Service will be held at the Charles E. Eccher Park (Lowland Park) in Stony Point, NY 10980 on Friday, June 21, 2013 from 5-9 pm.
Beth's family would like to thank the staff at the Kingenstein Pavillion Palliative care unit at the Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan for their kind, compassionate and loving care.
