ROTTERDAM- Betsy Carolyn Brockmann, of Rotterdam, NY, passed away so peacefully, surrounded by family and her loving husband, Hermann, on Sunday, April 2nd, 2017, at Ellis Hospital. She was born on October 5, 1926 in NY, NY, to the late John and Hilda (Bergstrom) Balfoort. Along with her parents, Betsy is predeceased by her sister, Rita Vivian.
A graduate of Nott Terrace High School, she worked as a telephone operator for NY telephone, and as a receptionist for General Electric. Her most important occupation, however, was being home to raise her children, and being Hermann's partner in life. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Betsy and Hermann had a bond that many of us can only envy. They were fortunate to have 62 wonderful years together. Hermann dedicated himself to her as sole caregiver for many years, allowing them to remain together at home- time they both treasured. Their shared love of bowling gave them a lifetime of memories and many good friends. They enjoyed trips to Europe, many visits to the West Coast, and cruises.
In addition to her beloved husband, Hermann, Betsy is survived by her sons, Bill (Lee) and David (Kelley) Brockmann, daughter Lynda (Juan), grand children, David, Tanner, and Erika Brockmann, Kristen Goodmore, Hannah, Jake, Tyler, Emily, and Katie Walter, great grand children, Brody, Elle, David, Stassi, Nina, and Scott.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Walebowa of Ellis Hospital, and nurse, Kelly, for their compassionate care of Betsy and support to the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betsy's name to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
