Bettie D. Smith

Bettie D. Smith, 80, of Schenectady entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at her home.
Bettie was born on February 13, 1930 in Henderson, NC to the late Deacon Moses and Virdie Y. Davis. Bettie graduated from Henderson Institute in 1948. She then attended St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, NC and graduated from Faulkner School of Nursing in Boston, MA. She worked for many years as a registered nurse at Ellis hospital and St. Clare's Hospital, until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of St. James Baptist church in Henderson, NC and then joined Bethel AME church of Schenectady. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, David Smith and her grandson, Matthew B. Smith.
Bettie leaves to cherish her memory, her children; David A. Smith Sr., Donna Lynn Smith-Boyd, Steven W. (Monica) Smith and Jonathan Ryals, her great-grandson, whom she raised; her grandchildren, Diona L., David A., Charmian R., Christopher and Nicholas Smith, and Selena Canton. She also leaves 8 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters; Lucille Grimes and Verdie Howard and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 12:00 pm at Bethel AME Church, 540 Mumford Street, Schenectady. Calling hours will precede the service from 10:30 to 12 at the church. Interment will follow the service at Parkview cemetery, Schenectady.
